DAY 2

Montefiascone to Viterbo
Distance to Cover: 18 Km
Walk Time: 4/5 hours

The first part of the stage will allow you to walk like the ancient Romans, on the ancient paving of the Via Cassia, which is still in excellent condition.

You will pass through a hilly route, which offers special views of Viterbo and Montefiascone.

The city of Viterbo is of Etruscan origin, and has a vast medieval historic center.
Particularly the San Pellegrino district, which is still well preserved and has almost perfectly preserved walls.

DAY 3

Viterbo to Vetralla
Distance to Cover: 18 Km
Walk Time: 4/5 hours

You start from Viterbo and soon reach one of the most striking sections of the Via Francigena.

In fact, you pass through a part of the road of Etruscan origin, dug into the tuff where you can admire in some places the high walls more than 10 meters high, called Etruscan cuts.

Another point of interest along this route is the spring area of Fossato Callo. This is a beautiful fountain with a series of communicating peperino pools.

The road continues to Vetralla passing through fields and stretches of paved road.

DAY 4

Vetralla to Sutri
Distance to Cover: 24 Km
Walk Time: 6/7 hours

Starting in Vetralla, you walk first through a forest, then through a large hazel grove, finally passing by monumental oaks.

Passing the village of Capranica, you reach Sutri, famous for its Romanesque-era Amphitheater carved into the tuff, and the Mitreo an ancient place of worship.

Inside there are also images of pilgrims on the Via Francigena. Don’t forget to visit the Cathedral, whose bell tower dominates the town.

DAY 5

Sutri to Campagnano di Roma
Distance to Cover: 28 Km
Walk Time: 7/8 hours

From Sutri, passing through the Etruscan necropolis, you walk to Monterosi.

From here you arrive at a unique place: The waterfalls of Monte Gelato. These waterfalls become world famous thanks to cinema. It was Roberto Rossellini who discovered them and made them famous with his 1950 film “Francis, Jester of God.”

From here the trail continues to Campagnano. You have entered the “Veio Regional Park.”

Via Francigena - Step Sutri to Campagnano di Roma

Leaving Campagnano after a short distance you reach the Sorbo Sanctuary, which stands on a rock that stands out among the vegetation.

You pass through 2 parks: the first one is Parco del Sorbo, which you cross to reach Formello, then Parco Di Veio.

Walking through the Natural Park, with Etruscan excavations along the way, you reach the Cascate della Mola waterfalls and to Isola Farnese.

Via Francigena - Step Campagnano di Roma to La Storta
